Importing a new scenario or dealer list
One way of creating a new scenario is to import a list of dealers and then save that as a scenario. Your scenario could be anything: your existing dealer network, a new network plan, a sales or service network or any theoretical network.
Click on ‘Choose File’ and navigate to the CSV file on your computer. Select the CSV file and then click ‘Submit’.
An upload file preview shows the first few records of your file. Select the column to geocode. This column will appear as an orange colour to confirm your selection.
This will create an X, Y coordinates for each dealer, so that they can be placed on the map. Next, confirm the level of geography. Network Toolkit can not automatically detect what level of geography this is, so you will have to manually confirm this.
Tick the checkbox entitled ‘Are you importing a new network?’ – at this stage, more input options will appear. Select the data column which uniquely identifies your dealers. Use an outlet ID or dealer number. If these alphanumeric codes are not unique, Network Toolkit will ask you to edit or delete the problem entries. Enter the name of your new scenario and fill in any comments in the comments box below.
Click the ‘Validate’ button. Network Toolkit will check your input file and return any records if:
a. The postcode, zipcode, address is not recognised
b. Two or more postcodes, zipcodes or addresses are identical
c. Two or more dealers contain the same unique ID
In each case, you have the opportunity to either edit the record or delete it from the import. If you do delete an outlet record, you can always add it manually later by adding it directly to the map.
Once you have deleted, edited your records, click on ‘Save changes’ to re-check the data. Once the data import wizard has completed all checks and there are no more errors, a confirmation message will be shown. Click on the ‘Process’ button to continue.
Network Toolkit will now take some time to import the dealer points and calculate initial metrics for the network. This could take up to several minutes.
